Theatre for Young America
has provided live professional theatre and drama classes to young people since
1974. The theatre's mission is to foster the educational and emotional growth of young people through drama. The theatre delves into a wide range of subject matter from the very ancient to the most modern, seeking to illuminate what is pertinent to today's young people. With each play the theatre finds connections to curriculum topics and provides a specially prepared Leaders' Guide with background information and classroom activities related to the play. Students attending TYA plays also participate in a question-and-answer session with the actors, and schools may book an Outreach Workshop conducted on school site. Theatre for Young America also offers a full schedule of after-school drama classes taught by professional actors at the theatre. Theatre for Young America aims to inspire in its audience a sense of wonder while instilling new knowledge, deeper understanding of the world around us, and wider compassion for the diverse spectrum of human beings.
