This
brand-new musical play is based on Richard Scarry’s popular books for young
readers, including What Do People Do All Day?.
Huckle Cat takes the audience on a tour of busy, bustling Busy Town and
introduces all his hard-working friends.
Using
fantastic movement and puppetry, in the same tradition of Go, Dog. Go!
this show brings the classic children’s story to vibrant, singing, dancing,
exuberant life—just as your children imagine it. Curriculum

TOUGHEST KID IN THE WORLD
November 11 through 19, 2008
TK redefines “tough” for himself and learns
personal skills that empower him to reject violence in this musical play full of
humor and heart. A special Outreach
Workshop, Exploring Conflict Resolution Through Drama, is also available,
conducted by the actors in classrooms at the school. Professional development workshops for teachers are also
available. Curriculum
Recommendations: live drama, conflict resolution, violence prevention,
verbal communication skills. Age: Appropriate for grades 4 through 12.
THE LITTLE SNOW GIRL

2 through 30., 2008
This
heartwarming play tells how a girl made of snow comes to life for an old couple
who had always wanted a child of their own. Then one day the greed of the old
people causes the Snow Girl to leave them and return to the land of ice and
snow. They are heartbroken, but love and remorse have a magical effect and their
little Snow Girl is restored to them—this time as a real child.
Based on The Legend of Snegurochka, an ancient Russian folktale.
Curriculum Connections:
Russian culture, family dynamics, fantasy, folklore, adoption.

AFRICA’S DAUGHTERS

A young girl named Makeda takes an amazing journey
through 4 millennia of African and African-American history, seen through the
eyes of women ranging from the Ethiopian Queen of Sheba to modern playwright
Lorraine Hansberry. In between
ancient times and modern times Makeda joins the struggles and shares the
triumphs of this historical pageant, and the experience changes her forever.
Curriculum Recommendations: drama, biography, African and African-American history, U.S. history,
Civil War, women's studies, civil rights, Underground Railroad, live theater.
Age: Appropriate for 2nd grade and up
LILLY’S PURPLE PLASTIC PURSE

3 through April 17, 2009
Back by popular demand: a faithful stage version of
the popular books by Kevin Henkes, including Chester’s Way; Julius,
Baby of the World, and Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse.
This play appeals to the very youngest playgoer with an endearing young
heroine, Lilly, who likes purple, plastic purses, shiny quarters, movie star
sunglasses and her teacher. More
than anything Lilly wants to grow
up to be a teacher herself. Curriculum

THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE
April
21 through May 16, 2009
Four
children are evacuated from London in 1940 due to the recent outbreak of the
World War II. They are sent to live with Professor Digory, in a large house in
the English countryside. Lucy, the
youngest of the children, climbs into a wardrobe and finds herself in a
fantastic, snow-covered forest with a lamp-post in the center. She meets a faun,
who introduces himself as Tumnus and tells her that the land is called Narnia.
Curriculum Recommendations: English literature, fantasy, character development, faith, sibling
relationships. Age: K
and up.
TREASURE ISLAND
June
9 through July 3, 2009
Dramatized from the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, this exciting play starts at the Admiral Benbow Inn, where an old sea captain is given the black spot—a death mark—by pirates. Young Jim Hawkins finds the treasure map and soon sets sail for the mysterious Treasure Island. Manned by a crew of rowdy pirates, the ship becomes a scene of mutiny and conflict which spill out onto the island where Jim Hawkins proves his mettle.Curriculum Recommendations: maritime history and culture, British history, pirate lore, transportation, navigation, astronomy. Age: Appropriate for 1st grade and up.
